If your device's touchscreen is not behaving normally or the device does not seem to respond to input, it is possible that the unit is in 'Talkback' mode.
This is a feature designed for the visually impaired, which uses mainly audible communication, as well as vibration to let you know what is on your screen.
It allows you to use touch or other input with your device to receive feedback as to what is currently on the display of your device.
This mode may be automatically activated on some units.
If Talkback mode has been activated, it may seem as though your device is not behaving normally.
To perform an action such as pressing a button, you must first press on a button, then double tap the same button.
Often if your device is in TalkBack mode, there will be a green or blue box around items that you select, as shown in the image below:
If you are in the setup stage with your device, you can deactivate TalkBack Mode as so:
- Locate and open Accessibility Settings.
- Open TalkBack.
- Turn TalkBack off.
To deactivate this on an Android device that is already set up, please follow these steps:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Open Accessibility, then TalkBack.
- Turn off TalkBack.
